Acceptance of Gene Edited Foods
The Food Industry Association, FMI, funded two pivotal projects examining U.S. consumer acceptance of gene editing and bioengineering across various food products and processing stages. These studies assessed consumer perceptions of gene-edited foods compared to organic, non-GMO, conventional, and bioengineered alternatives. The findings have informed FMI members, the general public, and academics on new methods for eliciting preferences for gene-edited foods. For instance, previous research primarily estimated consumer preferences by comparing gene-edited foods to conventional counterparts. This study expanded the analysis to include trade-offs among other product types, such as organic and non-GMO options, providing a more comprehensive understanding of consumer choices
