Dr. Rachele De Cianni is a Research and Lab Manager.
She joined the Food Choice & Policy Lab initially as a visiting PhD student from Italy and continued her work at Michigan State University following a highly positive collaborative experience. Rachele holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology (2020) and a PhD in Agricultural Economics (2025) from the University of Turin, Italy. Her academic training spans biological sciences, food science, and food economics, providing a strong foundation for working across research, education, and applied, interdisciplinary contexts.
In her role as Lab Manager, Rachele supports the planning and execution of research and education initiatives. She oversees day-to-day operations, coordinates student researchers, and facilitates communication among faculty, students, and external partners. She also leads the lab’s communication and dissemination efforts, including the development of website content and outreach materials designed to make research outputs clear and accessible to diverse audiences. In addition, she plays a central role in organizing and managing major initiatives and events, such as the International Workshop on Survey Design and Experimental Methods and stakeholder-focused engagement activities.
Rachele’s research interests focus on consumer behavior, sustainability, and innovation in food systems, with particular attention to plant-based and alternative proteins, as well as circular economy products such as upcycled foods. Across her work, she is especially interested in using research as a tool to inform practice, support education, and contribute to real-world impact in mission-driven settings.
